REFLECTION
My journey at the University of Florida (UF) has been a transformative experience that has greatly enriched my global awareness and intercultural competence. Through a combination of study abroad, campus involvement, international coursework, and language learning, I have not only expanded my understanding of different cultures but also honed my ability to communicate effectively across a variety of differences.

One of the most impactful aspects of the International Scholars Program (ISP) was studying abroad in Rome. I am originally from Chicago, and moving to a new state where I knew no one proved to be an immense challenge for me. Throughout the past few years, I have learned how to keep an open mind while navigating unfamiliar situations. Immersed in the rich history and vibrant culture of Italy, I was constantly challenged to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new experiences. From exploring ancient landmarks to trying traditional Italian cuisine, every moment was an opportunity for growth. For instance, my participation in the "Survey of Art and Architecture in Italy" provided me with a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural contexts behind Italy's artistic masterpieces. This firsthand exposure not only enhanced my appreciation for art but also broadened my perspective on global heritage and creativity.

Moreover, my involvement in UF Navigators International allowed me to engage in meaningful cultural exchange and develop friendships with students from diverse backgrounds. Serving as a mentor to international students from countries like the Cayman Islands, Liechtenstein, and Japan, I gained invaluable insights into different worldviews and customs. Sharing experiences and conversations has affirmed the importance of being open and respectful in fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Learning a new language has also played a pivotal role in my ISP journey, particularly during my time in Italy. My biggest accomplishment was learning how to speak a new language! I spent a few months using Duolingo Italian to prepare before the program and took an Italian class while there. I had known for a while that I wanted to pick up a new language, so building a foundation ahead of time allowed me to learn even more while I was in Italy. Also, being fully immersed in a place where I could practice Italian in everyday interactions was the quickest and best way for me to learn! By the end of the program, I was confident in getting around without having to speak English at all. This experience underscored how linguistic proficiency can bridge cultural divides and facilitate building meaningful connections.

Furthermore, my coursework in international business and art appreciation provided me with a holistic perspective on the impact of culture and international environments on business and art. Through discussions on ethical responsibilities in international business and critical analyses of diverse art traditions, I learned to approach complex issues with nuance and sensitivity. These interdisciplinary insights equipped me with the analytical tools and communication skills necessary to navigate the interconnected world of today.

Looking ahead, I am confident that the lessons and experiences gained through my ISP journey will continue to shape my personal and professional endeavors post-graduation. Whether pursuing a career in marketing or engaging in cross-cultural collaborations, I am better prepared to navigate the complexities of our globalized society with empathy, curiosity, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Overall, my ISP experience at UF has been a catalyst for personal growth, expanding my horizons beyond geographical boundaries and fostering a deep appreciation for the richness of global diversity. As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the countless moments of connection and learning that have empowered me to grow as an individual.
